A Pandemic

Enter the unprecedented. What we pray against. The quintessence of communal misfortune. I reckon the world has seen several of these but somehow, we weren't ready. Which makes absolutely no sense when you think about it. Our species has advanced massively over time.We have put a man on the moon, we have an international space station, we have hyper-sonic weapons, we have built super computers, we have taken a photograph of the black hole at the center of our galaxy... I could go on and on. Covid-19 is like 2019 kicked a curler and we just watched wondering if it was going to go in and it did. It's one of those things you hope won't happen but they happen anyway and you're just like, oh well, shit.
Planning for worst-case scenarios is the most pessimistic thing ever but it's necessary. What is the worst that can happen? We probably don't ask ourselves that questions enough which is probably because we want good things to happen. We want economies to grow, we want to not get sick, we want good nutritious food, we want to live more quality lives but that doesn't really happen all the time. Outcomes fall short of expectations and we find ourselves in the rain hoping that it doesn't pour and then it does and we find ourselves in trouble.
We will get through this; well, at least some of us will. It will be a lesson for history and turning point in every aspect of the world we live in. We will be now aware of our vulnerabilities more than ever. It is ostensible that we're exposed to the elements and we have little power when it comes to extremes. Economies whether advanced or developing are a disaster away from collapse because our very existence is subject to forces that are out of our control. This is a tough lesson for the world. We will definitely not be the same after this and we will have to review and ask ourselves what is truly important.
The world is a global village and there's need to address issues that affect us all. Borders won't save us from climate change and they sure as hell won't save us from the next pandemic.Natural disaster and cataclysmic events have devastated lives but not as much as conflict and other self destructive practices. One may argue that human beings are inherently selfish but maybe it's time to unite against common problems rather than fight each other for the interests of the few. The earth would still exist even if human beings were wiped out. We are insignificant but our actions aren't and we will hold ourselves accountable for what we do and don't do. Let's be better.
